AIG created the general insurance company in Kenya during 1972, then operating as ALICO General Division. Following the sale of the life business to a local company, ALICO General Division became AIG Kenya Insurance Co. Ltd in December 2004. It is a majority-owned subsidiary or American International Group, Inc, (AIG). One third of the company is locally owned.
